Halloween Freaks

Halloween lovers, one & all.

I have been doing a yard haunt for about 10 years now. It started with carved pumpkins and cheap decorations but that wasnt enough every year it gets bigger and better. My wife thinks I am crazy when on 4th of july I am building new props and researching new ideas. But my kids love it as do I. Throughout the year there is not one day that gos by that Halloween is not mentioned in my house. Michael Myers is our fav. my kids think I am Michael Myers cause I dress up like him on halloween and my coustume is in my closet all year long for quick access of course just in case the neighbor kids need a fright all year long. I think my haunt passions started as a child I would go trick or treating with my friends then come home and put the speakers in the window blaring some erie Black Sabbath and hide in the shadows waiting for the next person to scare. My son Cole reminds me of me he just turned 5 in april last halloween after trick or treating he helped scaring trick or treaters by hiding behind tombstons or in the coffins I think he scared more people than my friends or myself it was just unexpected. I respect the animated props but I prefer human acting there is nothing like it. One year I had an animated coffin pop up by the time the word got out to other trick or treaters they came to see just that and knew what to expect. Now every few min. we change positions so you dont know what coffin someone will jump out of or what side of the house someone will come from. My fav. thing as Michael Myers is when I see someone really scared that wont even step foot into the yard I will slowly start following them down the block until they stop then I'll throw a hand full of candy in their bags. One of my most memorable haunting moments was 4 years ago it was early October and I hung a prop from a noose in my front tree no other halloween decorations were up yet and not even 3 hours later I had the cops at my house thinking someone had hung themself for real.

I loved reading what you wrote. I do a lot of the same thing! I've followed people down the sidewalk to! My human props change positions as well. My kids love it! not so much doing all the work, but they love working the yard.
We set goals...how many kids can we make cry, & grown men scream!
( I know, we're terrible)

Hey, thanks for inviting me! Loved reading about your haunting experiences...it brought back soo many memories for me. It's exactly what started my obsession for everything scary. When I was about 9, my sister and I were out trick or treating and came apon a dark house with a scarecrow sitting in a chair on the porch. We stood there for about 10 minutes...should we go to the door or just leave? Is the scarecrow real or not? Did he move? I thing I saw him move.....We'd take two steps toward the steps, then change our minds and start to walk away, five steps forward, start to walk away. Finally they guy in the scarecrow costume just started running for us....it's scared used half to death, but I remember laughing my ass off once I was far enough away. It was THE MOST AWESOME THING!! It changed my life forever!

We did the hanging thing about 3 years ago, we built a scaffold and hung my daughter from it. We had several visits from local police. Each time they stopped she lifted her head up and waived at them. You could see her feet dangling but you had to really look to see the safety harness sprouting from behind her back. We dressed her in black and put a sign up that said she was one of the salem witches who was hung.
